Visual artist and filmmaker Edgar Honetschläger is releasing a book about his week-long, solitary stay in Cy Twombly’s studio in Gaeta, a port city north of Naples. While there, he writes, draws, and paints. The old house’s architecture and furnishings, the blue light, the terraced garden, and the constant presence of Twombly—who passed away in 2011—in his studio serve as his sources of inspiration. Honetschläger creates over 400 works exploring Twombly’s artistic genius and the genius loci. His highly personal text, published concurrently with his selection of paintings, is addressed to his imaginary host as a long monologue.
