This marks the first time the series wir zeigen features an artist who sees himself as a sculptor. Markus Wilfling, who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts under Bruno Gironcoli in the early 1990s, is one of the most distinguished Austrian artists when it comes to working with and for special interiors and exteriors. He has been transforming items and materials of daily use into mainly monumental art objects and installations for more than three decades, developing his unmistakable sculptural language of forms.
Interpreting the Semperdepot as an “architectural sculpture,” the Graz-based artist developed several works under the standby.on.run that subtly reference the location’s form and (historical) function and also adapted early works for this context.
The publication gives an overview of the great diversity of his workand the impressive productivity of an artist, sharpening the eye for the particularities of the individual projects and works. The book is published in conjunction with the exhibition Markus Wilfling standby.on.run in fall 2020 at the Atelierhaus (former Semperdepot) of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
