The ambiguity of the title Einen Dreck muss ich! (I don't give a damn!) should be noted. Roland Maurmair is a sophisticated wordsmith who works with language as precisely as he makes—in his works—the connections between traditional technologies, new media, and phenomena from the biosphere. The publication offers an overview of Maurmair's artistic work in recent years.
In his installations and objects, he repeatedly creates critical, often subversively humorous collisions between humans, nature, and technology. Described as experimentally “electrified nature” they demonstrate with a light touch the madness, stupidity, hypocrisy, and idiocy produced by today's society. Where his inventions and actions border on the absurd, a quiet melancholy also becomes apparent, brought about by this wide-awake heir to Romanticism.
