Despite heavy protests the Wiener Jugendgerichtshof was shut down in 2003. The young prisoners were moved to another quarter. The building in the third district was evacuated and stood empty for a period of three years. The subject of Eva Schlegel’s and Eva Würdinger’s book is the derelict building, the hearing rooms and above all the “cells” and their countless graffiti-drawings. The photographs show the house as it still stands today and the young prisoner’s reality, which is blanked out by the public consciousness.
