The term “Neozoon” (invasive animal) refers to an animal species that humans have introduced into a non-indigenous habitat where it happily reproduces. The German-French artist collective NEOZOON cuts animal silhouettes out of old fur coats to place them in public spaces. Behind every fur lingers the uncompromising exploration of the relation between modern civilization-society and the animal. In Vienna, it is horses that appear to have escaped their trainers in the jungle of the city. In Street Art Passage at the MuseumsQuartier, the artist group implements the strategy of “cultural jamming,” a tactic of disruption that undercuts corporate advertising. The catalogue documents their project for Vienna and features a short interview with the collective.
