In the paintings collected and united in the present book, Josef Ramaseder makes use of found text fragments and references. This results in images on canvas taken, for example, from the trailer of a film or a passage of teletext, making use of the old technique of encaustics. Current reflections on media are applied through a traditional technique. Original meanings of words, sentences, and names are reduced in concrete poetic perception and, as aesthetic, expressive arrangements of letters, nearly break through the borders of his picture formats. Ramaseder appropriates, transforms, and creates a postmodern, inconclusive weave of references in the media of painting, photography, video, installation and art in public space.

Josef Ramaseder lives and works in Linz and Lomnice nad Lužnicí. He studied under Oswald Oberhuber at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Numerous solo and group exhibitions, including Galerie Stadtpark Krems, Lentos Kunstmuseum Linz, Amy Lipton Gallery, New York, Künstlerhaus Wien.
