The exhibition project wir zeigen has dedicated its fifth solo show to Hubert Lobnig. His work is given a comprehensive retrospective in this book, which is published in conjunction with the exhibition. In times of social polarization in reaction to the refugees of summer and fall of 2015, it is important to present an artist who has focused on sociopolitical subjects throughout his creative periods and across all media.

Born in Carinthia in 1962, the artist translates his observations of society very subtly and empathetic, without being moralizing or dogmatic, into his paintings, video works, and photo seriesfrequently in collaboration with Iris Andraschek and often with his actively cooperating protagonists.

Hubert Lobnig lives and works in Vienna and Mödring (Lower Austria). He studied at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. Numerous exhibitions, e.g. at the Dom- Und Diözesanmuseum/Vienna, Kunstraum Weikendorf/Weikendorf, 270W 17th Street/New York, Kunsthalle Exnergasse/Vienna, Durham Art Gallery/Canada, Raum mit Licht/Vienna, Galerie im Turm/Berlin.
